We're devising a new theatre show at the Southbank Centre based on the real body stories, interviews and questionnaire responses we have received from people all over the UK about their bodies.
Here you can read from our Assistant Director and intern Maria all about how rehearsals are going!
Today we had all the actors in the same place at the Southbank Centre for the first time! We enjoyed a morning of sharing our stories about our own bodies and people that we had encountered during our Research and Development week. Pictures were bought in by all the actors of significant points in their life. It was amazing how this encouraged everyone to open up. After this everyone felt like they'd known each other much longer than 90 minutes!
It looks set to be an exciting 2 weeks! With director Guy Jones at the helm and all our talented actors we will have an amazing performance for International Day of the Girl on 11th October.
11 days to go!
So today there was a lot of expectations resting on everyone's shoulders after such an amazing first day of rehearsing, and all expectations were met and surpassed! The morning was spent working on text and understanding the emotion felt by the person who's story it was. There are so many different stories being used and so many more that are informing the process!
This afternoon things really spiced up! Our movement director Corinne came in and worked with our actors to choreograph a scene showing characters getting ready for a night out - with a LOT of dancing to Beyonce! By the end of the day everyone felt really satisfied with what they'd achieved. Everyone did amazingly!
10 days to go!
Where to begin?!? Today so much has been achieved...
We have an opening! It looks amazing. The piece is really beginning to take shape and being able to say that after 3 days is an incredible achievement! There is a wonderful atmosphere within the rehearsal room - playful and explorative. The characters are being bought to life. There is a real sense of the different people who'd sent in their stories. They are all helping the actors create!
9 days to go!
The script is looking amazing. Guy has done a fantastic job with it. The actors have all worked really hard to help with the text and bringing it to life. Today we have worked on different parts of the script and started linking sections together. Dare it be said but the script seems to be nearing the finished point. Thank you the everyone who helped by sending in their stories - the script wouldn't be what it is, without you.
8 days to go!
We have completed our first week of rehearsals! Time has whizzed by. What better to finish than with a run through of the script in it's entirety. As mentioned earlier this week, with Guy at the helm of this project, how could anything less have been expected? After working so hard, the cast are all going to appreciate the weekend before the hard work starts again.
Roll on next week.
7days to go!
Guy has done wonders with the script over the weekend. It was brilliant before, but there are now even more stories being told, it's incredible. So many stories in one show. Everyone is very aware that the performance is in 4 days and the pressure is here. Today Guy has been directing the play scene by scene and, like every production, the group wish they had a bit more time. Looking at what they achieved last week, there's no doubt that it will be incredible by Friday.
4 days to go!
The production is really beginning to take shape! All the scenes that have been directed are looking amazing. Everyone has been really energised in today's space - there is so much natural light with a great view of the London Eye. The cast are all having such a good time and it is lovely to see them enjoying the process, this will almost surely show be obvious when the show premieres on Friday. Very excited to see what tomorrow brings!
3 days to go!
We did a run on the stage today and it was amazing. Ruth found it hard at times to not get teary eyed. Everything has come together swimmingly. Tomorrow is going to be busy, busy, busy! The aim is to do run after run after run. Everyone is doing so well and all are really impressed with what Guy has facilitated in under two weeks of devising. Well done to Ruth, Guy and all the cast. It's almost there!
Oh Goodness! 2 Days to blast off!!!
The premiere is tomorrow! How quickly that has come round! Today has been amazing, everything has come together swimmingly. Each run through has been better than the one before. After watching every scene numerous times throughout the rehearsal process, I found it lovely that I managed to find enjoyment and comedy within the show like I was watching it for the first time. It's become a proper show from a few ideas in under two weeks! That is a great achievement.
Everyone is going to be in for a treat tomorrow!
